We got there... eventually
This was supposed to be a simple conveyancing process. The simplest possible really. The property being purchased was empty with no chain involved. We (the purchasers) had no chain either, with the money sitting in the bank waiting for completion. The only minor complication was the purchaser was a UK citizen returning to the UK from Canada. And somehow, it took 5.5 months from initial contact, when everything with the seller had already been agreed, to get to exchange of contracts. This included most of 3 months (April, May, June 2026) after we had provided them with all the paperwork they had asked for. I know the real estate process in the UK is incredibly slow and cumbersome compared to many other countries, and that there is no such thing as a quick and efficient solicitor anywhere in the country. But still, Jury O’Shea elevated delaying everything to an art form. There was simply no response or communication from them for weeks at a time. We were clearly just another case that had to be dealt with sometime, and most likely sitting on someone’s desk for long stretches with nothing being done. I don’t expect to be involved in any other real estate transaction in the UK in my lifetime. But if I am, I know which solicitors I will make sure to avoid.
