Terrible and traumatic.

Absolutely appalling service from this firm who handled my late mother's estate. Their communication was poor, their manner dismissive and their service unprofessional. I was passed from person to person after mistakes were made and no apology was ever made, nor did they finish the job for which they were paid.

Consistent

We have had all of our family legal matters conducted by DF legal for many years.
Just like the late great Robert Smith before him, David gives a straight forward friendly, and efficient service.
The office staff too deserve a mention. They are always efficient and keen to help with enquiries.
We wouldn't go anywhere else, and we've had many dealings from conveyance to employment issues etc over time, which were all carried out very satisfyingly.

Caveat Emptor

They did not attempt to understand the brief. Aparrently they do not mean to act in an offhand manner. I found them to be disproportionately expensive, so suggest you get several quotes before selecting them. I think the speed they operate at is also questionable. I will probably now drop out of the purchase which cant be in the interest of their existing clients.

Nightmare Conveyancing Experience

David Ferraby, a partner at the Stroud office, took over the conveyancing in respect of the sale of my late father’s house when the solicitor I originally instructed at their Tewkesbury office, left the firm partway through the process. This has been a very stressful time for me, hugely exacerbated by Mr Ferraby’s apparent lack of drive to bring the matter to exchange of contracts and completion.

Mr Ferraby failed to respond to 9 emails and a telephone call from me between mid November and the second week of January, in which I simply asked for an update - other than, on one occasion, to promise to get back to me the next day - which he did not do. This was a cash sale by an investor and therefore a very straightforward transaction. To still be awaiting exchange of contracts over three months after I originally contacted Mr Ferraby’s Tewkesbury colleague and to ignore ALL attempts by me to find out what was causing the delay is, in my opinion, appallingly unprofessional. I made it clear at the outset that I was in a position to apply pressure on the buyers to push for exchange and completion, if I was advised of any problems being encountered. Mr Ferraby’s attitude appears simply to be that he should not be expected to be proactive, but should just sit back and wait for the buyer’s solicitors to do all the running.

In my opinion, Mr Ferraby’s failure to be proactive in this matter has cost me a considerable amount of money.

I would strongly recommend against instructing Mr Ferraby in respect of any conveyance.

I will be registering a formal complaint with the Legal Ombudsman and the SRA.
