I divorced in 2020 with no assets to split and was not mindful at the time of the risk of not agreeing a clean break order. I later became aware that, with no clean break order in place, my ex-spouse would have the ability to make a future claim against my assets and salary, even against those which I accumulated long after being divorced. Discussions with my ex-spouse about agreeing a clean break order broke down and at times it looked likely that I would need to pursue a costly and emotionally draining order through the courts.
