The Stamp Duty Holiday covers the temporary relief from paying Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) on property purchases in England. A solicitor in this area helps you apply for the relief through the correct SDLT return, review the transaction to ensure the threshold is correctly applied, and handle any associated documentation and deadlines with HMRC. They assess eligibility, gather supporting evidence, and liaise with the seller, lender and estate agent to complete the purchase in line with the relief rules.
The relief depends on property price, timing and occupancy status, with specific thresholds and carve-outs. A solicitor ensures the correct form is completed, calculates the SDLT due if relief ends, and attends to deadlines, correspondence with HMRC, and the filing of the SDLT return to secure the temporary reduction.
