Tier 1 covers a set of UK visa routes within the points-based system for skilled migrants, investors and entrepreneurs. A solicitor practising in this area assesses eligibility, helps clients gather evidence, drafts and submits applications, and coordinates with UK Visas and Immigration to secure leave to enter or remain. They respond to requests for further information, manage deadlines, and advise on extensions or changes of circumstance. The work matters because getting a timely, compliant visa decision affects a client’s right to work, study and live in the UK.
The solicitor handles detailed eligibility criteria such as points thresholds, evidence of funds, English language, and maintenance requirements; they assemble and verify documents, draft supporting letters, and liaise with the Home Office. They navigate the sequence of submissions, potential refusals, and any required changes of status or route within the Tier 1 family of visas, including investor and entrepreneur variants, where relevant.
