This work covers visa applications, family and work settlement, asylum and refugee claims, nationality, naturalisation and challenges to enforced removal or deportation by the Home Office and UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). A solicitor drafts entry-clearance and leave-to-remain applications, prepares British Nationality Act 1981 registration and naturalisation submissions, arranges biometric enrolment, compiles documentary bundles, represents clients at Home Office interviews and at the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), and brings appeals and judicial-review claims in the Administrative Court where appropriate. The practice is shaped by the Immigration Act 1971 and subsequent immigration legislation, Home Office policy guidance and tribunal case law, sponsor licence and Sponsorship Management System rules for employers, and evidential credibility at interview and hearing.
Where a solicitor protects your position
The specific protective acts include submitting or appealing an application for leave to remain or settlement, making representations at asylum or biometric interviews, and lodging appeals to the First-tier Tribunal or judicial-review claims in the Administrative Court against Home Office refusal or removal decisions; failure to pursue these remedies can result in enforced removal or loss of lawful status. A solicitor gathers and files the necessary evidence, advances statutory and human-rights grounds, and advocates in tribunal and court to preserve lawful residence.
