A litigation friend is a person authorised to represent someone who cannot plead or instruct in court, typically due to lack of capacity. In England, a solicitor or sometimes a suitable lay party acts for the protected party in civil proceedings, handling court documents, allocating funds, and making decisions in the party’s best interests within proceedings in the High Court or County Court.
