Estate processing covers administering a deceased person’s affairs after death, including obtaining a grant of representation, collecting assets, paying debts and liabilities, and distributing the remaining assets to beneficiaries. A solicitor in this area may prepare and lodge probate or letters of administration, value and transfer assets, deal with banks, HMRC for any inheritance tax or income tax issues, and resolve claims from creditors or beneficiaries. The work is shaped by the size and complexity of the estate and any lifetime gifts or trusts involved.

“I had a very good experience using Charles Smalley at Poole Alcock to sort out my mothers affairs. He talked me through the process of what was required, what |I needed to do, what information he required and the costs involved. It was not a straightforward case as it also involved my aunt's estate but Charles kept me informed of the progress throughout. Hearing back from HMRC took time regarding overpayment but thankfully it is all now complete.”

“Really appreciated the support and guidance from Rachel, not just able to provide honest and clear guidance but was really just able to listen when I think that was what I needed the most. My concerns were treated compassionately and with empathy whilst giving me the direction I needed to move forward and I feel that I am back in control now. Thank you, cannot recommend highly enough!”
