Probate Instructions covers arranging and guiding the process of applying for a grant of probate after a death, and administering the estate in England. A solicitor in this area drafts or reviews the probate papers, helps identify the executor(s), collects and values assets, settles Inheritance Tax and other liabilities, contacts banks and beneficiaries, and registers the grant with the Probate Registry. They also provide practical steps for dealing with estate assets, debts and distribution in line with the deceased’s will or the rules of intestacy.
The process hinges on time-sensitive steps such as notifying HMRC, obtaining the Grant of Probate, and distributing assets. A solicitor ensures the correct forms are completed, handles any challenges or disputes, and coordinates with executors and beneficiaries to protect the estate from missteps, delays, or misdelivery of funds.

Tagged solicitor Sophie Ellis
What a team! Between Sophie and Jaeda, not only was my parents house sold, but probate sorted in a caring and highly professional manner. I cannot recommend Beswicks Legal enough: at an incredibly difficult time, they demonstrated empathy whilst advising my family. I would not hesitate to recommend this firm of solicitors.
