Disappointed

I used Thomson Bancks to purchase my first home due to a recommendation. I specifically worked with Chantal and Hayley, I was very disappointed with the service that I received. At times I would go 2-3 weeks without an update and when I called through to follow up with them after no response to emails, I would find out there hadn’t been any. Although at times this could be because there was no traction on the sellers side, they had also not informed me this was the case or followed up with them. Forms were sent through half populated as if they hadn’t even been checked and details of the property were also commonly incorrect. My biggest annoyance was that agreements were made during this process with the seller (I confirmed with Chantal what would be needed to be put in place to ensure they happened), needless to say safeguards that should have been put in place were not. Post sale my only options were to take the seller to court or pay the costs myself. This could have been easily avoided and since purchasing more land have realised that the oversight, knowledge and experience wasn’t there on this transaction. It took four months to complete on a house with no chain, that was unoccupied for three months of them. I will not be using again.

Reliable, professional, proactive

Emma Cottell has been absolutely brilliant in keeping ahead of the process of selling our home and helping us to purchase another. In our recent experience of another solicitor causing major delays (it is a long story!), Emma has been extremely proactive enabling us to complete the sale and purchase on time. We would not have completed were it not for Emma pushing this through. We cannot thank her enough.

On the day of completion, Louise was brilliant at communicating with us throughout the process. A stressful day made so much easy by a reliable, professional and proactive service.

We have used the services Thomson & Bancks for about 26 years now culminating in this recent house sale and purchase.

We would highly recommend this solicitor.

Extremely Dissatisfied

I was quoted £5k approx for the transaction... when I received the final invoice it was over £12.5k.

Do not use the firm as they have wrongly charged customers.

Absolutely amazing

We have completed on our sale & purchase within the last week and cannot speak highly enough of Thomson and Bancks - in particular Chantal Butters?? This is the second move Chantal has completed for us. Considering the pressure and demand on the housing market at the moment, Chantal was absolutely amazing?? She communicated with us throughout which filled us with great confidence and she flew us through despite some obstacles the other end! Would 100% go to Chantal for future moves!

Avoid at all costs!

We have been thoroughly appalled by the incompetence, attitude, work-ethic, rudeness and lack of professionalism shown by Chantal Butters.
Quite simply, we are stunned that someone can be this poor at their job and this rude when challenged.
No idea what she does and thankfully we managed to make some progress when she was on leave and covered by colleagues who were actually competent.
Chantal seemed to spend her time writing defensive emails about her complete lack of ability, diligence and communication skills. She is error-strewn through lack of attention to detail and simple effort. A lazy, less-than- ‘solicitor’ who should be avoided at all costs.

Excellent Company. Professional, Competent and Friendly

My wife and I recently instructed Thomson and Bancks Solicitors to deal with both the sale of our house and purchase of our next house. Emily Wort was appointed to deal with the transaction. Despite most of the staff working from home due to Covid restrictions, the phone was always answered swiftly by different members of staff and the call transferred to Emily (or if necessary her secretary Gemma). All members of staff were very friendly and competent.

Our transaction became a nightmare because our buyer used probably the best known cut-price online estate agents who in due course appointed the solicitors. The solicitors appointed for the buyer were horrific! From the outset they did not even acknowledge multiple communications from Emily (or other parties), let alone action them. As a result, this developed into probably the hardest transaction that Emily has ever handled and came close to it collapsing. If it was not for Emily’s determination and considerable experience in dealing with that awful firm of solicitors whilst reassuring the other parties in the chain we have no doubt that it would have collapsed.

In contrast to our buyer’s solicitors, Emily provided regular updates to us and the other parties. She was always supportive and friendly in our dealings with her. We give Thomson & Bancks Solicitors our strongest possible recommendation. This is based upon their ability to deliver in the most demanding of circumstances and the all-round competence of their staff. It was clear that Emily was over the moon for us when the transaction was successfully concluded. She genuinely cared.
