Paralegal at Wollens

Amelia Smith

Paralegal

I work as a paralegal within the Family Team, supporting Rachel Carter. I deal predominantly with care proceedings where Social Services are involved and there are allegations of non-accidental injury caused to a child by a parent. I graduated from Plymouth University in 2018 with an upper second-class honours in Law, Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. I then went on to study the Legal Practice Course alongside a Masters in law at the University of Law in Bristol from 2018-2019 and graduated with a Commendation. After completing my Legal Practice Course, I worked at local law firms between June 2019 and July 2021. Then I moved to Wollens. Throughout this time, I worked as a family paralegal. I will be commencing a Training Contract at Wollens in October 2022.

Rachel and her team in the family department at Wollens put me at ease from the moment I contacted them, instructing solicitors is never nice or easy but Rachel was professional and friendly from the word go!
Rachel and her Paralegal Amelia explained everything clearly, were very knowledgeable and although their work was strictly remote I never felt as though I was missing out on anything, I was kept well informed at each step during our case and everything was explained fully and my thoughts and feelings taken in to consideration at every point. I really felt they pulled out all the stops!
Our case over-ran by 6 months and ended with a fact finding hearing, we were extremely nervous, but Rachel and her chosen Barrister made us feel calm and in control, making sure we understood everything fully throughout. Thankfully our case ended positively and that in part was due to the outstanding work and knowledge of Rachel and her team.
Thank you so much Rachel & Wollens :)
