Smiah has represented clients facing criminal allegations ranging from minor offences to those of the most serious nature including GBH, Murder and Terrorism. From early on in her career, Smiah was exposed to high profile cases such as the July 7 London Bombing case as well as the largest counter-terrorism trial in the UK where the accused was the ring leader of training terrorists in training camps. Smiah has worked on some challenging cases which have given her the experience of dealing with complex material and demanding clients. Smiah was part of the defence team in R v SS, MS, WA, Ali Kingston Crown Court April 2009, where both her clients were cleared of helping to plan the 7/7 London Suicide attacks. This led to a retrial where they were again found not guilty of conspiring with the 2005 bombers by organising a reconnaissance mission to London. Smiah defended the ring leader, in R v H 2008. The defendant in this case was a preacher who ran a book stall in London and was accused of training individuals responsible for the London bombings. Aside from terrorism cases, Smiah has worked on other serious cases including R v AK 2009 where the defendant was accused of the murder of his wife and there were issues of domestic violence and mistreatment of the children by the stepmother. Smiah has many years experience in criminal defence work and regularly attends the Magistrates Court and represents clients at Police stations, always achieving the best possible results.
