Melanie is based in our Newcastle office and has been with the firm for more than a decade.
She obtained her law degree at Newcastle University and completed her Legal Practice Course at Northumbria University in 2004.
She completed her training at a local North East Firm and, after a short time in Yorkshire, joined Sweeney Miller in 2007.
Melanie deals with all aspects of residential conveyancing and has extensive experience of complex transactions including leasehold, shared ownership and new-build matters including the various Help to Buy Government schemes. She has also dealt extensively with Wills, Trusts and Probate matters although she is now focussed solely on residential conveyancing. She has developed a particular specialism in shared ownership and shared equity leases, which can often be quite complex and time-consuming. As someone with many years of sound conveyancing and Private Client experience, she is an indispensable resource within the Firm.

First paperwork my name was wrong. Felt like it was bear minimum with everything, poor email etiquette, had to chase jobs towards the end and just not convincing in anything.
Would have been helpful that when paperwork was needed, send a return envelope with postage to make the process easier.
My only thought might be that the firm is just taking on any work possible which is overloading the solicitors making them not take time on things and go the extra mile.

We note that there was a typo in your name in your initial instruction letter- we can only apologise for this. This was corrected as soon as you made us aware. We sent all documentation to you by email, as we normally do, to avoid delays with the postal system and most clients now prefer email as the primary means of communication. If you wanted things to be sent to you in the post with a return envelope, then we would have been happy to do so, had you asked for this. We are unsure what you mean by ‘poor email etiquette’ and having to chase. We have looked through the file and note that all communication was prompt and courteous and that your matter exchanged within 8 weeks of receiving contracts. No concern was raised by you during the transaction as to communication. Excellent conveyancing service
We are inexperienced first time buyers but Sweeney has made our purchase journey very pleasant. Our case were overseen by a senior and 2 trainee solicitors, providing both expertise and speedy response. We were guided from day 1 with clear step-by-step instructions and our whatever queries were typically addressed within few hours. There was a hiccup near the completion date when we wanted to reapply for a new mortgage, and Sweeney calmly walked us through the process. Excellent service
Want to say a massive thank you to both Kierra Carr and Mel Finlay (and everyone behind the scenes) who have being dealing with the sale of my new home. Nothing was too much to ask, very quick at responding and very pleasant to deal with. They managed to push the sale through to be completed before Christmas. Purchase of a property in Catterick
The team from Sweeney Miller were exceptional in the handling of my mortgage agreement during the conveyance process. Excellent service
Sweeney Miller was recommended to me by a friend because of their swiftness in communication. After completing a purchase through them, I will also be definitely recommending them.
