I was a private patient at Eltham Park Dental Practice, 5 Westmount Road, Eltham , London.
The dentist I saw there was Mr Williamson and I saw him every six months since at least June 2002.
I left this practice during 2018 as they wanted to take X-Rays too often and wanted to take more when they had taken them during my previous appointment. The dental nurse was also quite rude there.
I saw a new Dentist in March 2019. As it was a new dentist he had to take X- Rays again. Upon taking them he advised me that there was ‘a shadow’ that he felt warranted further investigation and referred me to a specialist in Harley Street, London.
I was sent for a cone beam scan and the results were that I had developed 2 extremely large cysts - one on each side of my jaw. These cysts had eaten the roots of 3 teeth on my right side and two on my left side. The cyst had also destroyed the bone in my jaw to the point that if it had been left undetected- my jaw would have just fractured due to the weakening.
I had to undergo 2 very invasive and painful jaw surgeries- one in 2019 and another in 2020 to remove the cysts. Biopsies were carried out first and the good news was that they weee not cancerous. The bad news was that the prognosis of the damaged roots to my teeth was not good and I was advised that their life express 2 -10 years.
To make matters worse, as the bone in my jaw has been eaten away - when I do lose the teeth - implants are not an option as there is nothing to drill into.
Each surgery left my in considerable pain and discomfort and numbness in my lip, jaw and gums. The damaged teeth have no sensation anymore and I have developed TMJ’s as a result of the surgeries.
I also had to undergo root canal on 3 teeth that were damaged - at considerable pain and cost.
Why had I ended up in this position? I was paying to see a private dentist every six months for regular checkups for around 20 years. The whole point of doing so was to try and maintain healthy teeth and avoid any potential problems.
The first appointment with a new dentist and he refers me. This was clearly negligence from the Eltham Park Dentist.
I did a search for solicitors who specialise in dental negligence and found the Dental Law Partnership (DLP).
My solicitor has been Mr Tim Armitage. He has worked tirelessly on my case for the past 3/4 years.
I am pleased to say that they managed to secure a settlement with Mr Williamson’s solicitors after a lengthy legal process.
Tim kept in contact with me to keep me informed and updated of progress every step of the way and was able to explain things to me in an easy to understand way. He has been extremely helpful through this stressful time.
I have no hesitation in recommending Tim Armitage and the Dental Law Parternership to anyone else that may have fallen victim to dental negligence.
