Planning for the care and support of my adult autistic son after I have passed on, has been uppermost in my mind for some time, but I truly did not know where to start. I joined a Mencap webinar on this subject which was very informative and helpful Philip Warford of Renaissance Legal presented a very well-structured session during the webinar. I was impressed with his clear understandable style which made the process feel approachable. I was also impressed by his deep knowledge of the subject matter and professionalism combined with compassion and understanding. He clearly laid out the fees for the service and I decided that I would work with him and Renaissance on creating a Discretionary Trust and in re writing my Will to reflect the Trust. Philip does offer sessions via Zoom, but personally, I would rather meet face to face and made arrangements to travel down to Brighton. Before attending the office, I was asked to fill in a fairly comprehensive Client Questionnaire This did a great job of really getting me to think it through and round up all the detail that I was gong to need to share and discuss. The Renaissance staff are all very friendly and helpful. In my meeting with Philip, he methodically guided me through sharing all the relevant information he would need to create the Trust and prepare my Will. He built up an understanding of my son and his needs (and also my neurotypical –ish 😊 daughter). As we spoke, he completed a really clear one-page diagram that captured the key information about the Trust, which I was able to take with me. I still refer too it and find it really helpful. Even with Philip’s expert guidance the process felt complex initially and I did read things through quite a bit. He guided me through it step by step and is very patient and responsive to my emails whenever I had a question or query. His clear guidance gave me clarity when having those difficult conversations with my adult children that they do not want to have. When my son read through the Letter of Wishes associated with the Trust, he was happy with it and understood that the intention was to best support his happiness and welfare. I supplied most of the information and Philip captured it all and reflected it back in the letter which was in plain English, clear and written in a warm engaging tone. This as a really lovely milestone for me to reach in the process. I have utter confidence that providing for my children as best as I can is in the most capable and professional hands. The sparkle on that, is I also feel that Philip and Renaissance actually care about it. It is a nuance that makes a really much appreciated and unexpected distinction in working through a legal matter. Highly recommended.

My wife and I recently asked Renaissance Legal to prepare our Wills, as well as putting in place a Disabled Person's Trust and providing help with a financial deputyship application.
