This firm was recommended to us by our Estate Agent, his wife is a Solicitor here. We thought it would be convenient for us to have the two together, I went with his recommendation, I hadn't read the Google reviews, I wish I had.

Ms Blackwell was my solicitor. It started well. I had instructed her a week or so before the house went on the market. All the forms were filled in and returned. An offer was accepted three days after being placed for sale. That's when everything slowed to a grinding halt.

Communication was very poor, extremely slow. Confusing and conflicting information regarding the sale was given by Ms Blackwell.

Add insult to injury, after I complained about what was happening via email I spoke to Ms Stumpenhusen, the complaints manager.

She was very confrontational and I barely got a word in. She asked me if I had lost faith in the firm, to which I answered yes. I tried to explain why and was wanting to work something out, when Ms Stumpenhusen started shouting at me. She then hung up. I then received an email accusing me of using constant profanities during the telephone conversation. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't like confrontation and bad language.

I tried to contact the firm via the phone and email to address the accusations that had been directed towards me as I was shocked, very confused and upset over them, but I was ignored. I finally received an email saying that the firm was pulling out of representing me and my house sale - we were touching distance of the contract exchange.

I asked for proof of my phone conversation to vindicate myself as I was completely innocent, surely they record them? I heard nothing. I truly wish I had recorded it as it would have proved my innocence.

Fortunately every cloud has a silver lining, I went to Andrew Gordon & Co, literally a few doors down and they completed the house sale so professionally and knowledgeably the difference between the two firms was like chalk and cheese.

So my advice to any potential customers reading my review - I can't advise you strongly enough than to avoid this firm. You have been warned. For confirmation check out the other reviews.

Great for first time buyers

Laura and Lorraine were excellent and can’t come highly recommended enough. This was our first house purchase and they explained the process to us and helped us along the way. Every question received a prompt response and Lorraine’s communication was excellent through out.

I’ve used Arnold Thomson for conveyancing three times for both buying and selling after a recommendation from family. Alberta is excellent. She was always available to answer questions and had everything in place for us quickly and efficiently despite other solicitors in the chain not doing so. Highly recommend them.

No time for potential clients

Initial consultation took 3 days for a phone call to take place.
Following consultation, a further 2 emails were sent before a response was received.
Response said that they wouldn't have time to carry out the work in the next two weeks as too busy. Would have been nice to have been informed of this during the initial consultation then i could have taken my business elsewhere. Or maybe my job was just too small (££).
Asked for a quotation for work anyway but still no response.
Personally would not use or recommend the services of Arnold Thomson to anyone.
Will be looking for an alternative solicitor to carry out my work.
