White Collar Defence covers criminal cases arising from high-level financial misconduct, fraud, bribery, money laundering and similar offences in England. A solicitor in this area represents individuals or organisations facing investigation or prosecution, negotiates with investigators, reviews and discloses evidence, and acts in proceedings such as disclosure applications, restraint orders and confiscation or civil recovery actions under the Proceeds of Crime Act. They advise on strategy, prepare responses to interview under caution, and represent clients in court at the Crown Court or higher tribunals where needed, aiming to protect the client's position from irrevocable consequences.
What a solicitor handles in these matters
White Collar Defence matters involve complex regulatory and procedural frameworks, including investigative interviewing, disclosure and evidence handling, confiscation and civil recovery processes, and potential cross-border elements. The solicitor coordinates with prosecutors, investigators, forensic experts and financial specialists to manage risk, liability and strategic disclosure, while safeguarding the client’s rights and ensuring regulated accountability through professional conduct rules and, where applicable, client accounts and representation rights.
