Absolutely Appalling Experience – Avoid Hedleys&Co at All Costs

Hedleys&Co were recommended by our bank, and what followed was easily one of the most frustrating and distressing experiences we’ve ever had. We were assigned Kirsty, who—without exaggeration—has been the worst solicitor I have ever encountered. Unprofessional, disinterested, and unfit to carry the title. From the outset, communication was almost non-existent. Emails were treated like second-class post—if you were lucky to get a response within five days, it was a miracle. We spent weeks chasing updates. Even receiving the welcome pack turned into a saga—we had to drive over an hour to hand-deliver it because we genuinely didn’t trust that they’d received or actioned it. That’s how little faith we had in their processes. Kirsty rarely, if ever, responded to messages through the bank’s conveyancing portal, and when she did, it was after significant delays. There was zero transparency, no initiative, no clarity—just an exhausting slog through what should have been a manageable process. We ended up having to escalate a formal concern to our bank and later submitted a detailed complaint directly to the company partner, laying out a timeline of issues. It was only after this complaint that things started moving, which is both telling and disgraceful. What’s worse? When we visited the office to hand over the contracts—again, physically, just to be sure—Kirsty showed up, didn’t say hello, didn’t acknowledge the inconvenience or the issues, didn’t apologise. She looked utterly disinterested. No ownership, no remorse, no professionalism. A stressful process was made immeasurably worse by Kirsty’s appalling conduct and the firm’s sheer lack of urgency, empathy, or competence. It was a constant battle to get even the most basic communication. This review is not written lightly—it is based entirely on our direct experience. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, and I sincerely hope our bank stops recommending Hedleys&Co. For anyone considering them: don’t. Save yourself the distress and go elsewhere. This firm is not worth your money, your time, or your peace of mind.

First Class - Highly Recommend

First time using a Solicitors. Was for a RTB. Leo (Solicitor) was supportive and communicative throughout the process. If I required any assistance, all colleagues from telephonists, receptionist, Solicitor assistants were all helpful, and accessible any time. The process from start to finish was the one the best customer journeys experienced, furthermore faultless, moreover completed within 10 weeks. A Special thanks to Leo, for everything you did, it was much appreciated from listening and being that sounding board when required guidance early on. Highly recommend! Thank you, all the best.

I was drawn to the firm by their compelling advertising. Leo's punctuality and concise communication style greatly enhanced my experience, and I appreciated the convenience of the conveyancing service they provided.

My Dealings with Kieron Bromiley & Leo Johnston were excellent

Both were available to answer questions by phone and email, always with a prompt response, saving both time and effort and speeding up the whole process - excellent communication and less stress with the selling process - Thank you.

Hedleys has now ceased trading with all works passed to another solicitor. Leo has retired. Our experience was diabolical and they ceased trading before resolving our issues. A two year process is now being drawn out with finding the checks and balances that should be in place were not. Lisa and Leo (Dream Team) are no longer there (the one positive). Terrible

I had a very poor experience with Hedleys & Co Solicitors during my house purchase, and I strongly advise anyone considering this firm to look elsewhere. From the start, the process was delayed, communication was poor, and there were repeated administrative issues. I first instructed the firm in April 2025, and the purchase did not complete until 19 December 2025 — roughly 37 weeks later. Even with a generous conveyancing timeline, the case took many weeks longer than it should have. Communication throughout the process was consistently poor. Emails were frequently left unanswered for extended periods, often requiring multiple follow-ups before I received a response. On several occasions, I called the office after emails went unanswered and was told I would receive a callback, but those callbacks never happened. At one point, I received an incorrect email address when I asked how to make a formal complaint. There were also administrative errors. Documents I had already submitted had to be provided again after the firm lost them. Despite supplying bank statements in July, follow-up questions about them were not raised until November (nearly four months later) even though those questions were apparently blocking progress on the file. During this time, I was repeatedly told the firm was waiting on the seller’s solicitors, while the seller was being told that my “proof of funds” was outstanding. The handling of my Lifetime ISA funds was also problematic. The bulk of my LISA funds were requested by the firm far earlier than necessary. The firm later acknowledged that this meant the funds were removed from the account prematurely and did not accrue interest during that time, resulting in a financial loss which was only reimbursed after I submitted a formal complaint. In addition, I was advised that I could pay the deposit from my own funds and later be reimbursed once the remaining LISA funds were received. When I contacted my LISA provider, they confirmed that this would not be permitted under HMRC rules and would incur a penalty — directly contradicting the advice I had been given. Following my complaint, the firm offered £210 to cover the estimated lost interest on the LISA funds. While this was accepted, the broader issues relating to delays, communication failures, and the overall handling of the transaction were not meaningfully addressed. Buying a home is stressful enough without having to repeatedly chase your own solicitor for updates, correct administrative mistakes, and resolve problems that should never have arisen in the first place. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm and would strongly encourage anyone considering them to look for an alternative conveyancing solicitor.
