Jay Shah

Jay Shah is a Partner and Solicitor in the Criminal Defence Department. Jay graduated from Sheffield Hallum University with Law LLB (Hons.) and completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of West of England – Bristol Institute of Legal Practice. He qualified as a Solicitor in May 2006 and was admitted as a Duty Solicitor in May 2007, having completed Stage 1 of the Criminal Accreditation Scheme. On 30th May 2012 Jay received Higher Courts (Criminal Advocacy) qualification status. This allows him to have rights of audience in all criminal proceedings in the higher courts and judicial review proceedings in any court arising from any cause. Jay was made a Partner of Stephen Rimmer LLP in April 2014. Jay can represent clients at the police station, Magistrates’ courts (guilty pleas and trials) all the way to the higher courts in criminal proceedings (which include appeals to the Crown Court from the Magistrates’ court, committal for sentence from the Magistrates’ Court, trials and sentences in the Crown Court). He mainly deals with complex and serious criminal investigations, trials and sentences. Jay has also represented defendants in the Court of Appeal in relation to appeals against conviction and sentence. Jay is one the busiest Higher Courts Advocates in the South East with him appearing in Court every week representing defendants on a variety of matters.
