My legal aid case has been ongoing for three years and the service has been disappointing throughout. Communication was poor, emails went unanswered for days and I was never given a direct contact number. Only one hearing was attended by my solicitor. A substitute from an unrelated area of law was sent to another, leaving me to explain my own case minutes before court. Documents were often requested last minute which added unnecessary pressure. After a settlement was agreed, payment delays and miscommunication continued. I had to chase repeatedly for updates and even provide the same information multiple times. An extension was agreed without my consent and enforcement action was not handled properly. During this time I was pregnant and gave birth, yet still met every requirement from my side. The ongoing stress, uncertainty and lack of proactive support seriously affected my mental health. I felt like I was managing the case alone. I would not recommend this service.
