Rachel is a Partner and Head of the Family Department. She specialises in representing parents and carers accused of non-accidental injury and other complex care proceedings. Non-accidental injury refers to allegations of physical abuse in infants and children, including head injuries (such as intracranial bleeding or shaken baby syndrome), fractures, and bruises. She also supports parents facing accusations of poisoning or FII (Fabricated or Induced Illness, formerly known as Munchausen’s by proxy). Her client base extends across the country, from Cornwall to Newcastle, and she appears in all levels of court — including the County Court, High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. She holds the Law Society’s specialist Children Panel accreditation. The majority of her work is legally aided, as parents involved in care proceedings are automatically entitled to full legal aid. She is particularly experienced in cases where clients transfer their legal aid representation partway through proceedings. With nearly two decades of exclusive practice in this highly specialised field, she has built strong working relationships with leading barristers and trusted medical experts. Her in-depth knowledge and network of professionals contribute significantly to achieving positive outcomes for her clients. She also runs an informational website dedicated to the legal aspects of non-accidental injury, offering further insights into her work: www.parentsaccused.co.uk

NAI children returning

Rachel helped me and my children when my children were removed due to NAI. Although we had a pool finding Rachel suggested to the court the resolutions assessment which led to the LA conducting a risk assessment of myself and I am now looking to work with a local family team and my children will be returned. Without Rachel and Ilke this would never be possible, their expertise are out of this world and nothing has ever been too much for either of them. Whether that is answering phone calls early morning to me panicking or emailing me back late nights on weekends to reassure me. Rachel has listened to every worry I have (and there’s been a lot) and reassured me time and time again. I can’t thank her enough for everything she’s done for my family. They are truly amazing at what they do, they have saved my family. Thank you Rachel from the bottom of my heart!

The best of the best

I cannot recommend Rachel highly enough. Throughout the care proceedings, her attention to detail was exceptional, and her commitment to achieving the best and most appropriate outcome for my family was unwavering. Rachel consistently showed compassion, understanding, and genuine support during an incredibly difficult time. She was always available to offer clear advice, and she followed up promptly whenever I needed guidance or reassurance. Facing NAI proceedings was one of the most challenging experiences of my life, but Rachel guided me through every stage with professionalism, confidence, and expertise. Her knowledge and dedication gave me confidence when I needed it most. Rachel is truly outstanding, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone involved in care proceedings. I can’t thank rachel enough for incredible work for 15 months, our boys are now back where they belong.

Brilliant Service again!

This is my second time working with Rachel and she goes above and beyond. She’s always on the end of the phone or answering emails and has been such a breath of fresh air in the fact that she talks to you like an actual human not just another case.

Amazing!

I couldn’t recommend this firm any higher. They’ve been amazing through my whole case. Even now the case has finished, they’re still talking to me, answering questions and queries I have. Aside from being great solicitors, they’re great people and they care about how you are as an individual. They have been a pleasure to work with.

From Despair To Hope: How Rachel Helped me Bring my Child Home

Two years ago, my child was taken away by Children’s Services due to alleged abusive head trauma. I was devastated. As I am not a UK citizen, I had no idea how to handle the situation. My previous solicitor did not answer my concerns, and I began to feel there was no hope of ever getting my child back. Before halfway through the case, I decided to change solicitors and found Rachel through her website and the excellent reviews of her work. From the very beginning, Rachel gave me confidence. She listened carefully to my concerns, answered all of my questions, and always responded promptly to my emails — even on weekends. Her empathy and commitment gave me reassurance and strength at a time when I felt completely lost. Rachel explored every possible way to bring my child back into my care. She arranged a resolution assessment with an independent social worker, which turned out to be a turning point in my case. The assessment was very positive, and as a result, the court gained the confidence to return my child to me under a Supervision Order. Today, my baby is back in my arms, and I have full parental responsibility. I will always be grateful to Rachel for her dedication, expertise, and compassion during the most difficult time of my life.

If it wasn't for Rachel Carter and the firm, I would not have my son home. I cannot thank them enough! So professional and knowledgeable, they knew from the beginning we had done nothing wrong and they soon proved it and got our kids back! I would recommend this firm to anybody who's child had had an ACCIDENT and are getting the finger pointed at them, trust me.
