Mark Wrinch

Mark is a Partner in our Property Disputes team, advising on residential, commercial, and agricultural property dispute issues. Mark advises a broad range of commercial clients, including both landlords and tenants, on lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, termination rights, dilapidations, service charge disputes, break clauses, and a wide variety of commercial property disputes. Mark also advises private property owners and tenants on residential property matters, including enfranchisement, rights of first refusal, tenancy breaches, tenancy terminations, restrictive covenants, adverse possession, rights of way, and rights of light. A significant proportion of his residential property work involves advising homeowners in relation to neighbour disputes, particularly those concerning boundaries and rights of way. Mark has developed particular expertise in advising families on disputes involving agricultural estates. These are often multifaceted due to diversification schemes and usually require a good understanding of partnership law. Mark does his best to settle cases early and use the full range of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) techniques to do so (excluding adjudication). Mark has a particular interest in mediation as he considers it an excellent ADR tool and has yet to represent a client unsuccessfully. Where litigation cannot be avoided, Mark assists clients in presenting their cases efficiently and robustly. Mark completed his Training Contract at Ashtons' predecessor Ashton Graham, qualifying in 2008. He has worked for two regional firms for the past 18 years before returning to Ashtons in 2026. Mark initially worked across a broad range of dispute resolution work, including insolvency, before realising his passion for property-related disputes, where his practical knowledge of land and buildings as a farmer’s son, allied with his technical expertise, helps him achieve excellent results for clients. Mark is a member of the Property Litigation Association (ALA), Agricultural Law Association (ALA), Country Land and Business Association and the Suffolk Agricultural Association (SAA). He has also been a senior steward of the Suffolk Show since 2022. Mark offers his clients clear and concise advice on technical legal issues, seeking to achieve compromise and settlement without resorting to contested court proceedings, if possible. This helps minimise not only cost, but also the accompanying stress and high risk that disputes entail. Outside of work, Mark follows his family's obsession for all things hockey. More recently, golf is the new attraction when he can be prised away from a book or travel magazine.
