Unprofessional service
Extremely disappointed with the service we received from Hunt & Coombs during our house purchase. We had previously used the firm on two occasions, so trusted them to act for us again. Unfortunately, during the purchase of our new home, there appears to have been a major misunderstanding regarding our source of funds. Rather than contacting us or the family member providing the gift to clarify the position, the firm decided they could no longer act for us and also declined the lender’s instructions. This caused huge stress, delay and disruption at a critical point in the transaction, especially as the seller was pushing for completion. In our view, a simple phone call could have resolved the issue, as the funds were gifted and supporting evidence was available. We fully understand that solicitors have strict anti-money laundering and lender obligations, but we felt the matter was handled in a very premature and heavy-handed way, without giving us a fair opportunity to clarify the facts. The situation caused us significant distress and inconvenience, and we are now having to instruct a new solicitor urgently to try and keep the purchase alive. Based on our experience, we would not recommend Hunt & Coombs for conveyancing.
