10 months of my time wasted and achieved nothing then dropped

I instructed Howells Solicitors to handle the purchase of a leasehold property in Cardiff, which completed in May 2024. While the transaction itself progressed smoothly, my experience post-completion was frustrating and drawn out. Several financial matters remained unresolved nearly a year after completion. Despite multiple follow-up emails, I received limited communication and no meaningful progress — until I formally raised a complaint. The lack of proactivity and poor post-completion communication left me disappointed. I expected a more attentive and efficient service from a legal firm. That said, once the complaint was escalated, the solicitor handling my case, Emma Mason, provided a clear explanation and ensured the outstanding payment was issued. The firm’s Risk & Compliance Manager, Ian East, responded professionally and formally closed the complaint once the matter was resolved. Why 2 stars? One star is for the successful completion of the property purchase. The second is for the eventual resolution and professionalism shown once the complaint was escalated. However, the poor follow-up, prolonged delays, and the need for a formal complaint process make it impossible for me to recommend the service or rate it any higher.

I ended up hiring Howell´s because the previous solicitors I hired when selling my property did not the job at all. The office worked in my transaction was the one located in Newport, South Wales. They literally reached the same point I was stucked with the previous one for 4 months in less than 2 weeks. Communication with them was outstanding and they were really helpful and supportive when I rose questions. We finally could exchange the contracts in less than 3 months since I hired them.

We recently used this company to sell a rental property. We found them an excellent company to undertake this work. Very efficient, timely kept us informed throughout. Represented our interests in a fair and excellent fashion. Gave sound advice and worked to a deadline with staff not sticking to 9 to 5 Monday to Friday in order to get the job done. Especial mention to Rebecca Davies our main contact point. A great advert for the firm and excellent legsl representative.
