This work covers assisting individuals who want to challenge a criminal conviction or sentence by applying to the Criminal Cases Review Commission for a possible referral to a higher court. A solicitor gathers new evidence, reviews trial and appeal material, drafts submissions, and coordinates with the Commission, the Court of Appeal and other parties. The aim is to identify a real ground for review and to progress the case through the Commission's referral and any subsequent appeal process.

Where a solicitor protects your position

The impact is potentially life-changing: a successful referral can overturn a conviction, quash a sentence, or open a new consideration of guilt. The solicitor protects the client's position by ensuring new evidence is properly presented, deadlines are met, and regulatory requirements are satisfied, while maintaining client confidentiality and professional standards.
