This area covers obtaining a divorce in England where the marriage occurred abroad, including questions of English jurisdiction, domicile, and whether a foreign divorce is recognised. A solicitor assesses where proceedings should be issued, guides you through filing for a divorce in the English court, and handles disclosure, affidavits, and service of papers. They also advise on cross-border financial settlement and, if relevant, the recognition or enforcement of orders overseas.

What a solicitor handles in these matters

They identify the correct forum, gather translated documents, prepare statements of truth, draft petitions or answers, and liaise with courts and, where needed, foreign authorities to secure enforceable financial and parenting provisions.
