Council housing work covers local authority housing matters, including securing or defending a council tenancy, challenging allocations or transfers, and addressing homelessness, disrepair, rent arrears and eviction under English housing law. A solicitor in this area gathers evidence, negotiates with the local council, drafts applications and representations, prepares possession or review documents, and represents clients in courts, tribunals and housing appeals. It often intersects with welfare benefits and homelessness strategies.
