In England, a solicitor working in wills, trusts and probate may deal with matters connected to probating estates and the administration of wills. A “Certificate Provider” is not a standard recognised title, so the description below reflects the typical probate and the administration tasks that a solicitor undertakes: advising on the validity of wills, applying for probate or letters of administration, collecting assets, paying liabilities, and distributing the estate to beneficiaries in accordance with the will or Intestacy Rules. They liaise with executors, beneficiaries, banks and the Probate Registry to secure and verify the necessary permissions and paperwork.
Where a solicitor protects your position
The solicitor helps secure the grant of probate or letters of administration, confirms the validity of the will, identifies and collects estate assets, pays debts and legacies, and completes inheritance tax submissions where required. They coordinate with banks to release assets, notify beneficiaries, and prepare distributions in line with the will or the rules of intestacy, while safeguarding assets through proper account handling and regulatory compliance.
