This area covers death-related matters under English law, including probate, administration of estates, and the distribution of assets after someone dies. A solicitor in this field advises executors and administrators, prepares and submits grant applications for probate or letters of administration, gathers and values the deceased’s assets, pays debts and taxes, and oversees the transfer of property to beneficiaries. They also help with intestacy planning, catch-up for tax liabilities, and dealing with banks, government bodies, and insurers on behalf of the estate.

“Ali has been fantastic. We previously went to another company who prepared our Wills and Powers of Attorney. The documents were incorrect and the service was awful. We were recommended Slater Heelis and in particular Ali. Ali gave us detailed advice and prepared new documents. The communication was great and everything was completed quickly. Thank you, Ali.”

“A thorough and professional service. The solicitor understood exactly what was needed and prepared a clear Deed of Variation that could be acted on by the executors. It took longer than the estimated 10 days, largely due to the unavoidable delays due to the long use of the paper post system.”

    Frequently asked questions

    How are these solicitors ranked?

Rankings are worked out mainly from client reviews: the ratings clients give and how recent the reviews are, with reviews about Death counting most. We also take into account how much of a firm's work is in Death.

How often are the rankings updated?

Twice a week, every Thursday and Sunday, so new reviews are reflected quickly. This list was last updated on 29 October 2026.

Is it free to compare solicitors?

Yes. Comparing firms, reading reviews and sending your case summary to the firms you choose is free.

    Who will see my details?

Only the law firms you choose to send your case summary to. Nothing is shared until you press send, and your details are never shown on this page.

Only law firms that have signed up to receive case summaries through us can be sent one. You can still contact any other firm directly from its profile.
