Wendy Beacom is a partner at Tilly Bailey & Irvine LLP. She is also head of the Private Family Law Team which specialises in divorce, financial matters arising from such, pre- and post-nuptial agreements and child arrangements. Wendy joined Tilly Bailey & Irvine in 2017, qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2000. Wendy is a member of Resolution and an accredited specialist in financial and child arrangements. Wendy began her career in law in 1989 as a secretary and undertook her studies to gain her qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive whilst working full time. She qualified as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 2000. Throughout her career she has worked in family law so has gained an enormous amount of experience seeing through many changes in the law from enforced child arrangements orders to the no fault divorce system introduced in 2022. She would say for the better for clients when it is aimed to reduce conflict between parties. Wendy has a particular expertise in the financial aspects of family law whether this is addressing finances arising from divorce, in contemplation of marriage or receiving assets for another source post marriage. The latter two scenarios being in the context of nuptial agreements. Wendy is often instructed to advise where businesses and land are involved. She works with our specialist trust, commercial and corporate teams to provide the advice such individuals would require as to implications for shareholders, third party owners or if there are trusts involved. Additionally, Wendy will work with third parties she trusts for example, surveyors, accountants or financial advisers where necessary to ensure that the best advice for clients is provided. Wendy is an accredited specialist with Resolution in financial and child arrangements. Resolution is an organisation that promotes a non-adversarial approach to resolving issues for clients and is comprised of specialist family law practitioners. At all times Wendy bears in mind whether there should be alternative court dispute resolution in the form of using mediation or holding joint meetings with the other party/representative to try to reach settlements terms by having constructive discussions designed to resolve issues rather than create conflict. Wendy is chair of the Tees Valley Resolution group. She is involved with Assist Ladies Networking as a co-host for the Middlesbrough branch of their just networking events. Given her own route to the law, she is very supportive of lawyers gaining qualifications by different routes be it via the CIlex route, University or apprenticeships.

Outstanding in every way

A difficult and stressful time in my life (divorce) was made so much better because of the professionalism, diligence, patience and kindness of my solicitor and her paralegal. I was always kept up to date and extremely well informed throughout the progression of proceedings. I found the team friendly, courteous and patient. I couldn’t have asked for more.

Restoration of a Pension

After a divorce, part of my pension was stopped but this was not my then wife's intention - even the pension company accepted that. It has taken me four years to have the pension restored but it required a court order which my solicitor helped me obtain.
