Andrew Milburn is head of our wills and probate department. Andrew began working as a private client paralegal in 2007 and qualified as a solicitor in 2010. Prior to this, Andrew was a manager at the Leeds Probate Registry where he worked for five years, gaining vast experience in probate matters. Andrew is a Dementia Friend and a fully qualified member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). He is also an accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly. In his spare time Andrew enjoys playing football and golf.

Patience of a saint
My husband and I made our first wills with Andrew Milburn and his team. Despite us repeatedly changing our minds about things, Andrew was patient and understanding throughout the process. He explained everything clearly and gave us sensitive, practical advice. It was also very helpful being able to pop into the Moortown office to sign the wills (thanks to Connor for his help with that).

Professional, prompt and informative
We got expert, concise and helpful advice on redrawing our wills. The drafts came promptly and despite changes that had to be made because of our circumstances, the redrafts were produced in good order. Some emails were caught by our spam filter and some of ours did not seem to arrive at Levi's. There was confusion over discount suggested by another department at Levi's, but that was promptly cleared up by a phone call from Andrew.

settling of my late father's estate and obtaining probate
My father's estate involved quite a lot of different investments and accounts, most of which were concluded reasonably quickly. However there were several accounts with Nat West which Andrew missed despite me handing him a complete list of all my father's accounts and investment, together with latest correspondence at our first meeting in February 2022. I had to remind Andrew of these and so they were followed up later than the rest and unfortunately proved to be the least forthcoming. The other accounts which were very difficult to resolve were with Aviva. There seemed to be a reluctance to chase these companies up in a proactive and timely way, more a case of "we'll see if we get anything back this week, and will chase next week if not ..." I eventually intervened and chased them myself, and received a small amount of compensation for their tardiness.
Andrew was very helpful in reducing my IHT liability and his advice regarding the valuation of my Father's house. I should add that the conveyancing team were excellent and true to the quote regarding the cost.
On the other hand Andrew's bill was more than double the quote at more than £16k, which was disappointing as I felt that I had needed to do a lot of the chasing, especially regarding the two companies mentioned above.
In conclusion Andrew was very helpful, pleasant and reassuring to deal with and completely professional.
