Needed more information on what to expect
I really appreciate that Stephen spent considerable time on our first phone call and then in person. Initially he suggested that I accept a ban, however, on meeting he said he felt that he had a better understanding of the situation. He told me that he would try to move the case together and that to expect the outcome and potential fees - all appreciated. This was a great start. However, the following aspects were disappointing, at no point was I made aware of what to expect in a court room. I realise that the solicitors do this every day but I don't and I was anxious. It would have been useful to have been informed. Secondly, and this was the thing that most disappointed me, on the day, I expected Stephen Coupe who had been dealing with my case. When I messaged on the morning to ask where do I meet, he told me his colleague was going to meet me. This made me quite nervous - plus, I was asked to meet them at 1.30pm to go through paperwork however, his colleague arrived at 1.55pm. Whilst he was pleasant and friendly - we didn't complete any paperwork, nor was I given any information on what to expect. Inside the court, I thought the solicitor was going to speak for me but I was expected to do most of the talking - it would have been good to know. The outcome was what we had hoped for which is good, however on leaving, I didn't expect the solicitor to swear in front of me. He apologised immediately but I did think it was unprofessional and I didn't understand why he felt it was appropriate. Overall, I was happy however, I do think as a firm you need to be more conscious of explaining the process to your clients.
