At a time of the anxiety arising from the handling of an estate following one's death it is of paramount importance and a great comfort to select a professional executor to deal with the estate.

Good afternoon Laura Thank you for providing such excellent feedback - we'll pass this onto Beverley, who we're sure will be equally as pleased and grateful. Mark - Dutton Gregory
Unfortunately, my experience with Nicky Marsh, who was appointed as my conveyancing solicitor, was disappointing. As a first-time buyer, I found her email communication to be unnecessarily rude, which made the process more stressful than it needed to be. Additionally, I found it extremely difficult to get in touch by phone, despite repeated attempts over several months. After completing the purchase, I shared feedback on my experience in the hope it might be taken on board, but it was dismissed and not acknowledged meaningfully. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this solicitor firm.

I used D&G a second time to purchase a house as they initially started out well with my first house purchase, this time I got Nicky Marsh, she never did a thing for a whole month, then I got an email from her stating she was no longer going to be handling my case for the purchase of a second house. No explanation, nothing very arrogant and rude, I believe she either didn't know how or couldn't be bothered to do the proof of funds for anti-money laundering both unprofessional reasons. Marsh never contacted me once ! Only her assistant, so she wasted a whole month, I nearly lost the purchase because of Nicky Marsh. I found a professional solicitors in London (Spence West) they cost more but they completed the anti-money laundering within 7 days and completed the whole house purchase transaction within 1 month !!, far better experience. I can only state my experience others may have a better experience but looking at the ratings of D&G seems a lot have had their time wasted as I had. I purchased a house in 2021 through D&G, all went well and I was initially satisfied Paul Sams handled the conveyancing etc. However D&G never completed the land registry (conveyancing 101), I found out 3 years later when I need the land registry docs, I won't go into detail but D&G were lazy just sent emails clearly they don't know how to use phones, I ended up having to chase a document they needed which took 1 phone call, I found that unprofessional.
RUDE, UNCARING, NEED CHASING, GET MOST THINGS WRONG, TOOK A YEAR TO INFORM. HOPELESS THIER HEAD OFFICE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THEM, SPEND TOO MUCH TIME COURTING POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS WHEN ARE NOT SERVING CLIENTS THEY HAVE
Extremely professional company, Neeta who was our allocated solicitor was extremely helpful throughout and had swift communication. We will definitely consider using Dutton Gregory again should we require the same services.
Solicitors are not generally known for their attention to customer service. But when handling my conveyancing, Dutton Gregory reach a new low, tarnishing the reputation of all solicitors everywhere. Dutton Gregory handled my conveyancing in Nov 2021. My solicitor went on holiday not once, but twice, at crucial points in the process, including two days before exchange. Nobody contacted me to tell me this - I found out that my buyers were ready to exchange from my estate agent - and everyone seemed surprised that I should expect it. A simple email would have done, explaining that my solicitor was away, when she would be back and who was handling my file in her absence. It's not rocket science, it's easy. Instead, I was left with urgent and important legal questions and nobody to answer them. Let me repeat - I found out that my buyers were ready to exchange from my estate agent! Not the solicitor that I was paying over a grand to handle the legal side. She didn't even know, because she was on holiday! When I complained, I received a haughty email from Sarah Sams, a partner at the firm, offering no apology, defending and justifying everything that had happened, and saying, "... it is not possible not [sic] notify all client’s [sic] individually when a member of staff is due to take annual leave." This is such obvious nonsense that it beggars belief that anyone would write it. It would take less than 10 minutes to send an email to a list of clients. The problem isn't just that this wasn't done, it's that nobody at Dutton Gregory thinks it is worth doing. Sarah Sams' email displays the root of the problem at Dutton Gregory perfectly. It comes from the top. Nobody cares about customer service there - they don't even know what it is. So this dreadful vacuum where customer service should be isn't going to get better, because the partners at Dutton Gregory cannot see it. As a result, they provide a lazy, complacent service, accompanied by an arrogant, high-handed manner. If you make the mistake of using them, expect the bare minimum, low interest in your situation, late responses or no reply at all to emails and messages, and your solicitor disappearing without notice with no cover. ###### UPDATE 2023 ##### I thought it worth adding that subsequently I've moved again, and this time my legal affairs were handled by a solicitor in Bath. They were absolutely superb, providing a stark counterpoint to the dreadful customer experience at Dutton Gregory by providing a really personal, sensitive, attentive service to customers. Interestingly, the solicitor handling my case went on holiday, just like the one from Dutton Gregory did. However, my new solicitors managed the "impossible task" (if you believe Sarah Sams) of emailing me beforehand to let me know she was going away, and telling me who would be handling my case in her absence. When I called with a question, the person covering for my solicitor had the file to hand, knew all about my situation, and was able to swiftly answer my questions, reassure me and take the necessary action. Dutton Gregory would do to take note! Meanwhile, if you're considering using Dutton Gregory for your conveyancing, PLEASE DON'T!
Let me warn you upfront: if you can AVOID using this firm please do, run away as fast as you can! When I purchased my property in April 2023, I naively trusted them to handle the transaction professionally. Yet six months later, they still haven't transferred the service charge money I sent them in trust to the rightful owner. I understand that my solicitor was on maternity leave, but they should have provided me with someone competent to resolve this mess. Instead I am dealing with some clueless junior who clearly has no idea how to fix the situation and deliver on outcomes. I'm appalled and angry that I'm still waiting on funds that were supposed to be delivered over half a year ago. This gross incompetence, negligence and lack of accountability is completely unacceptable. I am absolutely outraged that this company took my hard-earned money, charged exorbitant fees, and didn't even have the decency to deliver what was promised. Not once did they follow up with a phone call or make any effort to make things right. Their complete lack of customer service and failure to rectify the situation is unacceptable. I trusted them and they took advantage of that trust. They clearly do not value their customers or deliver on a service. I've never been treated so poorly by a business before. Please AVOID THIS FIRM!
Second time posting, original removed due to posting solicitors name… The worst solicitors I’ve dealt with. The sellers solicitor of a property we’re purchasing. Vacant property with no chain that should complete smoothly and 14 weeks later still waiting on responses to enquiries made by our solicitor on the 6th March. Not tricky enquiries, simple tasks like copies of the lease. Have shown no interest from the start. The solicitor *** ******* has gone on annual leave that has been extended three times. Leaving an assistant in charge of the case who doesn’t have authority to work the case. Who we have now been told has left the company last week. The firm has no one to cover cases. Estate agent, seller and myself have all chased constantly with no avail. Do not use!
Totally unprofessional and rude and God do they lie!! go elsewhere, once our case is fully out of there hands I will update the review to show how bad they are and show ow how badly and dishonesty they handled it,, much better solicitors in the area you have been warned don't make the mistakes we did.

As a Chartered Engineer (Civils), I require detail and professionalism in all of my dealings with third parties. Nicky Marsh and her team have excelled throughout, giving support and confidence throughout our dealings. Management should recognise their dedication and commitment; pay them some more money and keep a superb team together.

Lily Benson was fantastic to work with as she acted as my conveyancer in the purchase of my property. She was always very quick at replying to emails, and her replies always clearly answered any queries. She was very efficient and professional with the whole purchase, and I would definitely recommend her to any one who is looking to buy or sell property.

We had an excellent experience with our solicitors during the sale of our old home and the purchase of our new one in May. We worked with Nicky Marsh on the purchase and Vicktoria Brookes on the sale, and both were fantastic. They were always helpful, responded promptly to our emails, and patiently answered all of our questions. Our purchase wasn't straightforward, but Nicky handled everything professionally and worked incredibly hard to get it over the line. We're very grateful for all their support and would highly recommend their services.

Where to begin? I think disastrous and expensive would be a good start, quickly followed by one of the worst legal experiences to date. Got "allocated" this outfit some time ago as the litigator for a lease extension. Began reasonably well in the hands of a Dispute Resolution Executive who subsequently disappeared into the vapour on maternity leave but without the courtesy of telling me. Impending absence only discovered from tiny type in the email signature strip. How very professional. To be replaced by a full-blown Senior Associate Solicitor at a much, much higher hourly rate. Her profile described her as a "Property Specialist" but clearly not specialist enough to be able to explain anything coherently, not to change her mind at the 11th hour and not to have any idea of where things were at any given time. From my particular experience I'd say her "specialities" were more an inability to communicate clearly and concisely - including that old chestnut answering a direct question - long, rambling contradictory emails with just a dash of inaccurate cut and paste thrown in to spice things up, racking up her very substantial fees with her indecision and stretching the matter out interminably due to an overarching terror of "the litigation risk". Discussion at later date with a different legal firm told me that whereas a litigation risk does exist in every case, all the adjournments were unnecessary in such a simple matter and, very unsurprisingly, even the Courts got sick of it all and threatened to dismiss. A request to speak to someone who could explain better was met with a wall of silence and repeated requests to keep costs down by handing the matter to another Legal Executive or junior got the same shocking inaction. The little in her favour was that - after a number of challenges - she made a few meagre attempts to reduce costs and shaved a bit off her bills. Her final shining triumph was, however, to tell me I must pay the other side's costs when she had negotiated to the contrary. So, definitely no recommendation for this lot, and especially not her. Just another long, rotten and ridiculously expensive drag. And before this firm rushes to tell me that it was all the fault of the non-cooperative Freeholder, it's true that he dragged his heels but that does not in anyway impact my view of the poor service dispensed by the so-called "specialist".
