I instructed Irwin Mitchell through my legal expenses insurer for a boundary dispute. My experience has been extremely poor:
Delays: Despite clear advice from Counsel, they delayed for months in instructing a surveyor, stalling my case unnecessarily.
Mismanagement of funds: Insurer-approved money for an expert report was diverted elsewhere without my consent. A second funding application was later made for the same work.
Communication failures: Long periods of silence, then defensive emails denying any fault. Even after their own internal Stage 2 investigation (by Anthony Long) confirmed delays and misallocation, my case handlers continued to deny these facts and misled my insurer.
Complaint handling: Although the complaint was upheld, the findings were ignored in practice, leaving me with no confidence in their candour or professionalism.
I found their approach unprofessional, mis leading and detrimental to my case. Compensation offered (£400) was tokenistic given the wasted time, stress, and prejudice caused.
I cannot recommend Irwin Mitchell for insurer-funded litigation. Their service has left me with more delays, more costs, and less trust than when I started.
