Wills, Trusts & Probate

DO NOT BE DRAWN IN BY SALES WHEN YOU ARE VULNERABLE.

We now feel this is the case. We were advised by Barclaycard to accept a referral to the Co -Op legal services for Probate. Brian the Consultant (Salesman)who phoned us and promised if we were not happy with a case Handler for the probate of my Brother’s estate we could simply ask for a new Handler “1st wrong response “. This is not the case as we have found out. Personally we don’t have a problem with Priya the case handler as a person. However, we were not told our Case handler would be a Part Time employee and only available Monday to Wednesday. Making it very difficult to have contact when you need it. The next untruth was in an email from Priya, if she was unavailable you could contact the number and any one in her team would help! We have tried several times and told either you have rang the wrong office or you will have to call your Case Handler!!!! If you don’t have an Ext number that Works you can wait for well over an hour. I have given Brian the salesman opportunity to put this right, and he has communicated with Priya and the TEAM LEADER Erin well that has not worked if anything it has got Erin’s back up from the email I received from her. I’ve gone on enough. I do hope if anyone is monitoring feedback they may want to help to solve this problem. I will state, I have informed Brian the Salesman by Email I will do this .

£3000 to check consent-order and facilitate signing

Simply wanted a document looking over and facilitation of electronic signatures for court. They sat on it for two weeks and then claimed the work would cost up to £3000. Insane. Cancelled my representation and asked for full refund. DO NOT USE.

Terrible experience

Went to co-op legal for myself and my husband to have Wills and power of attorneys completed. Unfortunately the experience with them was dreadful. Passed from one department to the next with minor queries on documentation we were just expected to understand. No one knew who dealt with what. Barring one member of staff who was brilliant (the person who undertook our initial call and priced up the work needed), every member of staff was cold, blunt and unhelpful. We paid over £2,000 for their service. Will never ever use them again. Even the complaints process was frustrating and inadequate. Stay clear, hire a local solicitor instead for a similar price.

Terrible sales practices and hidden costs.

Used Co-op legal services for my father’s probate. Told them what I needed and was give a cost. At no point did I say engage them for additional work. I was told that I would be informed of any additional costs. I wasn’t. On the final statement there was an additional £500 cost not on the quote. I questioned this and was told that the small print allows them to charge whatever they want in addition to the price quoted. This seems disingenuous as they knew what was needed and gave a quote that didn’t include everything safe in the knowledge of the small print. Of course their complaints procedure ( very slow, presumably lots of complaints) just looks out for the Co-op. I would consider taking this to the ombudsman if I had the energy. Grieving takes that out of you which I think they know.

Terrible firm avoid at all costs

I engaged Co-op Legal Services for financial disclosure, having been quoted an estimated cost of £5,000 + VAT. To my shock, I was later billed over £10,000 (and its still going on!)—double the original estimate—with no clear warning, revised quote, or explicit consent sought. Communication throughout was poor. My case was reallocated without notice I only found out my solicitor had left the company when I got an out of office, updates were non existent and then I get charged for chasing them up The financial impact has been severe, and the £150 compensation offered feels dismissive given the distress and hardship caused. I’ve requested a full breakdown of charges, a reassessment of fees, and a formal review of their practices. If unresolved, I will escalate to the Legal Ombudsman and seek a statutory cost assessment. I expected professionalism and transparency. Sadly, I received neither. Save yourselves and stay well away
