Heald Nickinson

My husband and I first used Heald Nickinson to set up our Wills several years ago. With the death of my husband in January this year, it was Gendy Thomas at Heald Nickinson who helped to steer me through the process of gaining probate and managing my husband’s estate. I had no prior experience of being a sole executor, and at a deeply painful time, Gendy explained the process in a way I could understand and helped me every step of the way. She also helped me write my new Will and set up Powers of Attorney. All this was done with the utmost professionalism, but Gendy (ably assisted by her personal assistant Clare Larkham) was also friendly, easy to relate to and very responsive in all my communication with her, whether by phone or email (and of course in person). I then instructed Gendy to do the conveyancing for the sale of our second home, which was a somewhat torturous process (through no fault of our own), but with her impeccable advice and her authority, drove the sale through to completion which at times felt it would never happen. I am so grateful to Gendy for all her help and support - I felt that I was in a safe pair of hands. I would have no hesitation in using the services of Heald Nickinson again or recommending them to others.

They took 3 years to resolve my father's estate. During that time, we were passed to several different solicitors at the Camberley office (Dermot Flynn, Catherine Poleykett and David Beck), each of which did very little to move things along and failed to respond to communications in a timely manner, if at all - we had to keep chasing them for updates. Despite collating evidence to prove the will was forged (I paid out of my own pocket for the evidence to be analysed and collated it into a structured format for ease of reading so I could send it to them fully researched), they disregarded it all. I did all the work of gathering the evidence for them as they simply weren't interested in doing anything. It wasn't until the last 3 months when we pushed almost on a weekly basis for resolutions, that they actually took into consideration the evidence, but even then, when they had all the ID documents and signatures, they still took a while to send the monies out. They also emailed out personal information from one of the beneficiaries to all of the beneficiaries, exposing their address and date of birth. Failing to keep data safe. I wouldn't trust this firm with money to buy a pint of milk from the supermarket, let alone to deal with thousands of pounds in an estate. Avoid at all costs.

I had a free 15 minute consultation with Matthew Struve to discuss some issues that I had with probate after the passing of my brother, and his estate. Not only did Matthew give me 30 minutes of his time, but he gave me some excellent advice as to how to proceed going forwards. I had been quoted £480 from other firms, just to engage, and Matthew advised me that I did not need a solicitor at this stage, and laid out in detail my next steps. It is so refreshing to come across a firm that has my best interests at heart.
