This work covers the full response to criminal investigation and charge in England, from arrest and police station attendance and pre‑charge advice through magistrates' courts, Crown Court trials, sentence hearings and appeals. Solicitors advise under PACE, attend and conduct police interviews, apply for bail, prepare and serve disclosure requests under the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act, draft witness statements and skeleton arguments, instruct experts, negotiate with the Crown Prosecution Service and represent clients at trial and sentence. Progress is driven by disclosure, plea choices and custodial timetables.
