Unpaid time off covers statutory rights to take unaffiliated leave from work without pay, such as time off to deal with emergencies as a dependant, and certain family-related or parental leave rights. A solicitor in this area helps clients understand eligibility, prepare and submit notices, gather supporting evidence, and respond to any employer disputes about eligibility, duration or the grounds for leave. They advise on rights, time limits, and any consequences for the job if leave is refused or misused.
A solicitor explains the statutory framework, the evidential requirements for dependants’ time off, and the process for challenging refusals; they handle notices, document retention, and any potential breach claims through the appropriate tribunal or court, keeping the client informed of deadlines and procedural steps.

Tagged solicitor Rachael Scowcroft
I have known Rachael for well over 15 years, and when I was recently made redundant, she was the first person I turned to for guidance. Facing a settlement agreement from my employer was stressful and unfamiliar territory, but Rachael stepped in with exactly the support I needed. She assisted me with the legal aspects of the settlement, ensuring I fully understood my rights and the implications of every detail. On several occasions, I needed to call her for clarification or reassurance, and each time she was consistently professional, courteous, and incredibly knowledgeable. Rachael’s calm approach and expertise made a difficult situation far easier to navigate. Her support was invaluable, and she handled everything with the highest level of professionalism. Overall, Rachael is a credit to her profession — someone you can trust, rely on, and feel genuinely supported by during challenging times.
