I approached Francis George with the understanding that the firm had experience and training in domestic abuse and understood the different forms it can take. This was an important factor in my decision to instruct them. My initial solicitor was excellent, and I was very happy with her work. Unfortunately, after she went on maternity leave, my experience changed significantly. There was no direct handover meeting with me, and I found myself repeatedly having to explain my circumstances, the history of the relationship and the dynamics of the domestic abuse I had experienced which I was then charged for. I felt I was paying for time spent repeatedly explaining matters that I had already discussed. Throughout the process, my former partner’s position and tactics would change, requiring me to repeatedly correct the chronology of events and clarify the circumstances. Being trained in domestic abuse I would expect that the firm would recognise the patten of behaviour. Instead… I also found myself having to chase communications and updates, incurring further costs in the process. My principal concern was the lack of timely progression and escalation when it became apparent that matters were not moving forward. I did not expect the firm to make my former partner cooperate or agree to a settlement. I did, however, expect clear advice, effective case management and appropriate escalation when voluntary progress was not being achieved. After approximately nine months, I felt that very little meaningful progress had been made, despite the significant legal costs I had incurred. I ultimately instructed the firm to stop work because I had lost confidence that the situation was progressing as it needed to. I was also deeply disappointed by the tone and substance of the firm’s response to my formal complaint. Having spent a considerable amount of money as a client, I had hoped for a response that more fully engaged with my concerns and the impact of the service I had experienced. I recognise that family proceedings can be complicated and that solicitors cannot control the actions of the other party. My concern is that I did not feel my case was progressed or escalated appropriately when it needed to be. I am bitterly disappointed by my experience and feel let down as a customer. I have referred my complaint to the Legal Ombudsman for independent review.

My only disappointment was that the format of the Wills was out of line. However, the team did redo them for us. It is very comfortable to know that our Wills are safely stored.
