Approached Manak Solicitors as they have recently taken on another firm who is handling a probate matter for me. It seemed sensible to also use them to sell a house that formed part of the estate. They were professional from the outset. Excellent service from Lorna, Rebecca and George who handled this case. There was much correspondence between them and the sellers solicitors which was handled well. In many cases when I thought that things had stalled, they were quietly getting on with the job. Recommended.

**Subject: Feedback on Consultation Experience with Manak Solicitors** I would like to share my recent experience with Manak Solicitors after reaching out to them regarding probate matters. As a couple nearing 80 years of age, we have a pending inheritance of nearly £4 million and personal assets of at least £3 million. On 19 November 2024, at 14:02, I called Manak Solicitors in Orpington to schedule an introductory chat. I wanted to discuss the probate of a deceased individual, the unfinished probate of his wife, as well as wills, trusts, lasting power of attorney (LPA), and future probate matters pertaining to us. During the call, I was informed that a 30-minute consultation would cost £150, plus VAT. I hesitated at this price, and the person I spoke to indicated quite assertively that all firms now charge similar fees. In search of alternative options, I reached out to Kings Court Trust, which promptly sent a representative to our home for a free consultation. We wish you the best in resolving your current matters. **My Response to Their Reply** Thank you for your comprehensive and thoughtful reply; however, I believe you have failed to improve your profession's questionable reputation concerning fee-charging. First, I find your assumptions about my naivety quite insulting. Do you treat all your clients this way? I suggest the person who wrote this unsatisfactory response should be reprimanded. The way you justify charging £300 an hour for an introductory meeting is hard to understand when you would likely hesitate at the price of a cup of coffee. To me, this seems like an added-value approach. I cannot imagine the additional costs that might pile up during the course of a case. What makes your profession so different from any other skilled profession that justifies these unreasonable charges? Much of the work I needed assistance with is not specialised. I could handle some, if not all, of it myself, as the LPA, trusts, and probate matters should be second nature to you. Drafts of LPA deeds and trusts are freely available on ChatGPT. While I may not know how to fix a car, a local mechanic wouldn’t hold me to ransom for their services.

I used Manak Solicitors to obtain probate for me after the death of my father. Nosheen was very efficient, and true to her word arranged everything within 4 weeks. Excellent service.

My brother and I were very happy with service of Jas and the team at Manak Sevenoaks when selling my mother's house recently. Emails were answered quickly and any issues sorted promptly. Jas was available to give direct advice in person when needed. Excellent service all round.

Manak made a huge error when dealing with the probate sale of my parents in law's property (forgetting to send out the contracts to three parties for signature!) but they were very apologetic with this and saw things through afterwards. So when it came to selling our own property and purchasing another, we gave them the benefit of the doubt (mistakes do happen) and instructed Manak. The subsequent experience was very mixed. While some of the standard work was as expected and the sale and purchase were both achieved, this was overshadowed by a number of issues: 1) sending updates to an incorrect email address so we didn't receive these until we chased up 6 days later which shows lack of basic attention to detail, 2) no apology given even though we formally requested an apology for this error, 3) having so many different staff deal with our work with confusing messages about who is dealing with what and not knowing who to contact day to day, 4) sending a completion statement to us having forgotten to complete actions such as purchasing indemnity insurance and to update us on changed requirements, 5) sending us a final bill when we were actually in credit and they owed us money. Update on point 5) on 21st April: the information that they owe us money was yet another error, and most disrespectfully yet another error that is neither acknowledged, nor apology provided demonstrating a lack of accountablity and respect. The impact of all of this is that we had to spend a LOT of time chasing and following up as our confidence waned in their abilities to keep on top of things and where we felt we had to check everything that they were supposed to check in case they hadn't done it. Needless to say, I would not recommend this firm. The firm has since replied to the review stating that we did not use their complaints procedure. We saw this as a last resort and are still considering lodging a complaint. However, whether we lodge a complaint or not, potential customers are still entitled to know what our experience was so that they can have a balanced view about their choice of solicitor!
