I cannot fault the service I received from Thomas and I would like thank him for his understanding, thoroughness and his determination in acheiving the purchase of my house in such a small window. The tight schedule didn't deter Thomas from acheiving the goal. I also applaud his ethics and his comprehensive knowledge in his field. He was clear in his communication and when I needed to speak to him, he was always helpful and hospitable and when I left a voicemail when he was busy with other clients he gave me the confidence that he would always call back.. and he always did.
I would highly recommend Thomas, for the most part, getting the purchase completed in such a tight time frame whilst always remaining true to his profession.

First experience of conveyancers (selling): originally called Sequence Home and then bought out by Gilson Gray. Most of the (many different) people I spoke to were helpful, but it was like dealing with a call centre for your house sale, and the service as a whole was a complete shambles. Documents went missing. People did not know what was on the file. We got asked questions we'd already answered. Almost every call went to voicemail and was not returned. Emails were not answered. Multiple requests for updates just disappeared into the void. We turned around every single question we were relayed within 48 hours only to find that in some cases that information had not been sent back to the Buyers' side for several weeks. The impression I got was of a firm where the staff were just hopelessly swamped because the firm had taken on two or three times the amount of business that they could handle. No criticism of any individuals is intended (many of whom were knowledgeable and helpful) - it was a collective failure. After the buy-out it even got worse. In the last week or so of our sale I got the impression that some new people had been brought in to try to ease the load, but it was too little and too late. Don't chance it.

Sale of Family Protection Trust House
We needed to sell mum's house after she was put into nursing care. We'd placed her house in a family protection trust in 2011, but unfortunately by the time we were selling the house the firm of Scottish solicitors who'd been managing the trust had gone into administration the previous year, and we needed to transfer the trust to another company appointed to act as their successors. Unfortunately, that successor company was unable to carry out the conveyancing work themselves, but were able to refer us to Gilson Gray, who were familiar with the background above. Once Gilson Gray were on the case we found them very helpful and communicative, and, aside from one misplaced letter, which we feel may have cost us one prospective sale, were able to guide us through the complex, transatlantic (my fellow trustee lives in the USA) property transfer processes, to good effect. I am particularly grateful to Heather Neil of GGray, who always took care to answer queries and advise us promptly and clearly, through to completion today.

Aliza Shafiq is a hero
I will honestly say that my experience with Gilson Gray has been mixed, and early on I felt like I didn't have a clear line of sight or communication on what was going on or what was required from me. However, I have to call out Aliza Shafiq who picked up my case late in the process, and was awesome. Super friendly, super informative, clearly had an interest in getting my case completed. She was an absolute pleasure and helped me with my nerves through the process.
