Mike is a specialist criminal defence solicitor with over 25 years experience in this field. Mike attended Calday Grange Grammar school on the Wirral and then studied at Sheffield Hallam University followed by the University of Sheffield. Whilst studying for his law degree Mike started working in the criminal department at Bell Lamb & Joynson in the summer of 1994 under the tutelage of George Sale one of the areas most prominent and respected criminal defence solicitors. Mike started a training contract with the firm in 1996 qualifying as a solicitor in 1998. In 2001 Mike became a partner in the firm and subsequently the head of the criminal department. Mike is now the firms managing partner and the firms COLP. BLJ has one of the longest established criminal law departments in the area and are incredibly well respected in this field and are in the top 20% of providers by volume of Legal Aid cases in England and Wales. As head of the department, Mike runs a team of exceptionally talented and dedicated criminal defence solicitors, with over 200 years post qualification experience between them who can provide representation whatever the allegation across our office network in Merseyside and North Cheshire, and regularly on a national basis, 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.

Mike Leeman and Jim Smith supported me wholeheartedly through my criminal proceedings. They were both very clear in explaining legal jargon and processes, were available and swift in terms of questions and contact, and presented professionally and knowledgeably. Jim was instrumental in securing the best outcome I could have hoped for in court. The fees charges by the firm are extremely reasonable and transparent. Whilst I’m sure they are as competent in all legal fields they cover, I would highly recommending instructing these partners in particular in criminal law. Court outcome
After first contact with mike he was very down to the point of what the outcome could be with all possibility's , he got charge downgraded. And was excellent in communication through out whole process , would send emails at 10/11pm and get replies straight away , his attention to detail is fantastic and communication through out the whole process even when passed on to Jeremy still involved with video calls and communication , came out with best result i could possible hope for Brilliant service as well as aftercare communication

Great Advice and Outcome
From he outset Mike gave us a realistic assessment of possible outcomes and advised best strategy considering circumstances.
The approach was balanced explaining potential risks and benefits and resulted in a positive outcome.

Excellent Solicitors!
Great Solicitors for any type of case they specialise in. In my case I was charged with drink driving and that's an automatic ban, however they argued special reasoning for me and I walked away with 3 points; which is a great relief. Would recommend to anyone.
