Criminal defence covers the advice and representation given to someone charged with a crime, from the moment of arrest through police interview to court. A solicitor defends the client, reviews evidence, negotiates with the Crown Prosecution Service, and represents them in magistrates’ courts, the Crown Court, or on appeal. They prepare witnesses, challenge disclosure, draft legal submissions, and seek bail, sentence reductions, or acquittals based on the law and the facts.
