Eligibility for divorce covers the basic legal requirements someone must meet before a divorce petition can be heard in England. It includes whether the parties are legally married and whether the petitioner has the appropriate connection to England and Wales, such as domicile or residency, to start proceedings here. A solicitor checks these rules, helps ensure a valid petition is filed, and explains what evidence is needed to establish the right to proceed.

Where a solicitor protects your position

The solicitor explains the critical time points and documents that confirm you meet the legal criteria to divorce, including marriage validity and your connection to England and Wales. They outline what evidence must be gathered and how defects could affect the petition, so deadlines and procedural steps are understood and protected from delays.
