This area covers how an estate is handled after someone dies, including who inherits under a will or the rules of intestacy, and how the estate is administered by executors or administrators. A solicitor practising in State Succession helps with applying for probate or a letter of administration, collecting assets, paying liabilities, disposing of property, and distributing assets to beneficiaries, while navigating taxes, trusts, and any disputes. It may also involve planning to minimise future liabilities and addressing challenges to a will.
