Hearing loss arising from military service, including conditions caused by prolonged exposure to loud weapon fire or other service-related noises. A solicitor in this area helps people pursue compensation from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or, where appropriate, civil claims for negligence against the Ministry of Defence or other parties. They collect service and medical records, arrange specialist audiology assessments, prepare and submit claims, and negotiate settlements or present cases at hearings if necessary. The process can involve medical evidence, pension entitlements and appeals.
The claim hinges on proving a service-related hearing loss and its severity, which can affect future care, employment and financial security. A solicitor ensures deadlines are met, coordinates medical evidence, and represents the client at AFCS determinations or in court where a civil claim is possible, safeguarding the client’s position with regulated practice and client accounts.
