Hugh is a partner with our Wills & Probate team. He is a born and bred Islander and a familiar face in legal circles, having qualified in 1997 and worked locally throughout. Hugh joined us in 2011 and has over 12 years’ experience in Wills and Probate work. He was also the Isle of Wight’s Deputy Coroner for several years supporting John Matthews. The majority of Hugh’s work is spent drawing up wills, administration of trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney, obtaining grants of probate and administering the deceased’s estate. About 10% of his workload is spent acting as attorney or deputy for people who have lost capacity and not had the foresight to draw up a Lasting Power of Attorney; resulting in Hugh being appointed by the court to act for them.

My will.

Absolutely excellent service from start to finish. I asked Hue in the Freshwater branch to make my will for me. It took one meeting and a couple of weeks later it was all ready for my approval. Then a couple of weeks later it arrived through Royal mail all done. Rebecca who works in the reception was absolutely amazing, she sorted all the bits and bobs out and was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Churches Solicitors Freshwater without a doubt. We have now moved our entire family over to Churches because my father was with another solicitors based in Newport on the industrial estate but he was being taken for a ride. He has dementia and wasn't aware of the carelessness and compleat unprofessional actions they were performing! So we moved him to Churches Freshwater instead, within one Mon it was all done and professionally completed.

Lasting Powers of Attorney

Everything was explained clearly and precisely. There were no problems and the necessary documents all arrived without any added delay.

Mr Martin Lewis

I chose to use Churchers Solicitors after someone I knew suggested talking to them as they are local to me. They have done both my Will and POAs in the last year. I have found Hugh Calloway and the staff in Freshwater to be very helpful, accommodating, and will explain things at a level you understand. I would and have already recommended then.
