Disclaimer - I am getting divorced and this is my soon to be ex husbands solicitor. My review is therefore from the plaintiffs perspective. I have found Hall Smith Whittingham to be very aggressive in their communication - when they communicate. I have emailed consistently within 24 hours of receiving their demands, and they do not respond to me when I ask for an update. Although I am able to self litigate they refuse to respond to me in a timely and considerate manor. I have just telephoned a week after submitting my FFD as they are yet to provide me the othersides, to be placed on hold and hung up on! Why on earth I'd pay £350 per letter to use a solicitor is beyond me.

I chose HSW to deal with the financial settlement of my divorce. Ian Hamilton Fey provided excellent advice, predicted the proceedings and outcome and was good throughout the whole of the matter, which went right to a final hearing in court. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ian if you are struggling with a financial settlement.

Not the best service but not the worst. I have never had to use a solicitor before so didn’t know what to expect. I did get the end result but I thought there would have been more push to achieve a better result which i desired and more time taken to help understand my needs. I feel the main goal was to get the basic job done as quickly as possible, rather than advise me on how I could reach my goals. I didn’t feel any empathy towards my situation and sometimes when I called I felt the conversation was approached with a patronising tone which consequently stopped me from calling again and I was left unsure on some situations and felt I couldn’t ask questions.
