University Dispute resolution

I contacted HCB as it was listed as being expert in educational disputes and matters. Our son whilst at University was involved in was a victim of a violent attack, that resulted in him reporting it and then becoming involved in disciplinary a disciplinary process. We contacted the team for help and were given the details of Rob Slade and his executive Maria. They were amazing. We were on a tight timeline and Maria organised time in diaries quickly. Rob picked up the matter straight away and was very efficient and effective. he helped us with the Appeal document. This was successful he also advised us in dealing with the follow up as parents, rather than legally and how to manage the University disciplinary process overall. Excellent advise from Rob and great communications from both him and Maria, would highly recommend.

EHCP , change of school placement to SEN

I can not express how Saskia , Rob and Katie were efficient and professional throughout. They communicated promptly and ensured I understood exactly what choices I had and the next steps. Their experience and work got my son the school that he required for his needs and I could not have done it with out them. It was money well spent and I would not hesitate to recommend Rob and his Colleagues to anyone. Thank you all so much !

Efficient and responsive service

HCB Widdows Mason, specifically liaising with Maria Racz-Makany who provided a prompt and efficient service and was very responsive every time I contacted her, and also Helen Edwards who took on my university education dispute with a very short timeframe of 4 days until my deadline- as I only decided to obtain legal assistance at the last minute. Helen was also extremely efficient and responsive when I had contacted her. This was at extremely short notice and there was a significant amount of information for Helen to absorb and understand before she developed a document for my university appeal stage 2. She had to gain an understanding of my university dispute which had been going on for over 12 months, which included 3x extenuating circumstance submissions which uni rejected, an early resolution stage complaint, an appeal which had been rejected- therefore there was an extensive amount of information for Helen to take on board and understand before creating the document for my university appeal stage 2. Helen had to understand the specific elements of my extenuating circumstances & appeal key points alongside the considerable processes I had already undergone, however she managed to do this within my short timeframe and produced an impressive, detailed document for my stage 2 appeal. Both Helen and Maria's prompt & efficient service has been greatly appreciated and worthwhile. The quality of the work provided by HCB (Helen) is something that far exceeded the standard I could have produced myself with reference to relevant laws that I was unaware of. University have finally accepted my appeal off the back of the stage 2 appeal submission with the assistance from HCB- Maria & Helen specifically. Really appreciate the overall service provided, would use again!

Excellent from Start to Finish

We have used these Solicitors twice now with regard to his special education needs.
On both occasions they have won the appeal.
Without the help, guidance and understanding and patience we would never of achieved success.
I highly recommend this company to any parent who is struggling to get what the child needs.

Efficient and helpful

We were selling my mother's house and the team were always responsive and helpful. When we had queries they patiently explained things. Having a team of people at the other end was great as there was always someone available to respond.

Avoid Avoid Avoid

Called in 2022 very upset with local authority as my daughter has been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. I £9,000 was quoted if they were needed to attend court which was unlikely. I asked for regular cost updates, and costs moving forward. It never occurred. As a parent I have been made to feel like a hindrance. The first Solicitor did Chris belittle me really and was very over powering talking me into HCB being the only firm in the world that could help. I agreed to appeal the decision. it failed and then that solicitor left. his boss took over, Nathan Davis. He is as disrespectful as his member of staff.
Please avoid this dept and this firm, they do not care about the delicate situation and bill time that is not required. A parent who is exhausted needs consideration, all this firm is interested in, is billing you when you have made it clear your finances do not permit. two weeks before the hearing we asked for a fixed cost to submit evidence. because it was clear we were then not "an open cheque" they did not communicate. We spoke to the tribunal ourselves and finished submitting evidence ourselves and with the courts help transferred all communications to us.

Terrible Experience (IMPORTANT READ)

These solicitors are very awful. If you see this review take this as a sign from the universe. They took over 6 months for conveyancing for a no-chain and empty mortgageable property. In addition to this there communications is very slow and customer service is poor at times I would go weeks without updates which is very stressful. To add insult to injury they even tried to hide a knotweed treatment plan on the property from me .

So if you would like any of the above to happen to you proceed with this firm.

HCB Solicitors were a nightmare

HCB Solicitors were a nightmare to deal with! I appointed them for conveyancing services in 2020. I was assigned Geraint as my solicitor. Communication with Geraint is non-existent and I dealt mainly with his assistants. If you email Geraint or his assistants you will not get a response for a number of days and if you call them you will almost always get through to their voicemail or be told they are in a meeting. Additionally, when we finally made it to completion, one assistant incorrectly placed a bullet point and almost paid my Estate Agent around £50K! They are the type of solicitors who are extremely helpful when you are asking for a quote but then once you have paid the deposit you are no longer a priority and are one of maybe a hundred clients. I don't usually have strong opinions on companies but I would strongly advise against using HCB for conveyancing.
