We have recently completed both the sale of our home and the purchase of our new property, and I honestly can’t thank Caroline Polder at Thatcher + Hallam / Ames Kent enough for everything she did to get us there. Moving house is never without its challenges, and our transaction certainly had a few stressful moments along the way. Throughout the entire process, Caroline was calm, proactive and incredibly supportive. She kept us updated at every stage, explained everything clearly and was always quick to respond whenever we had questions or needed reassurance. What really stood out was how invested she was in keeping everything moving. We never felt like just another file on the desk – it genuinely felt like Caroline cared about getting us into our new home and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make that happen. Her professionalism, attention to detail and clear communication made what could have been a very stressful experience feel much more manageable. Lovely place, lovely people.

We were recommended Thatcher & Hallam for conveyancing by our estate agent. My partner contacted them to instruct them on a Thursday and didn’t receive a response until the following Tuesday. When they did reply, the response was unhelpful. A week later, we still hadn’t heard anything further, aside from a slightly snotty email saying they were busy and asking us not to contact them. Not a great impression. As of today, they still haven’t come back to confirm. As a result, our buyer was left waiting over a week for us simply to confirm basic conveyancer details for the memorandum of sale. This made us look disorganised and could easily have put our sale at risk. The estate agent who originally recommended them ultimately advised us to abort and go elsewhere. The new conveyancer they recommended replied and got it sorted within an hour - and even replied out of office hours. If they can’t be bothered to respond at the very start of the process, I dread to think how responsive they would be during the actual conveyancing. We also made it clear that we had another sale and a purchase coming up, so they’ve effectively lost out on two sales and a purchase due to being so slow, unprofessional and unresponsive in even getting themselves instructed. I’d strongly recommend avoiding them and choosing another firm that actually wants new conveyancing customers.

I rang to enquire about medical negligence as it was heavily advertised on their website. Receptionist unaware they offered this which was very concerning and gave me no confidence in using this company. It seems that they’ve gone very downhill since the 90’s when my family used them.

Exceptional Service from Hayley Wakefield at Thatcher & Hallam Hayley was absolutely brilliant throughout what turned out to be a very long and stressful house sale and purchase. The process took over a year and nearly collapsed several times due to buyers dropping out and poor solicitors further down the chain, but Hayley was consistently excellent. She is professional, approachable, and explains everything in plain English, which made things so much easier to understand. Hayley always responded quickly and was at the end of the phone whenever I needed clarification or reassurance. Her calm, proactive approach kept everything moving when it could have fallen apart. I would highly recommend Hayley Wakefield to anyone seeking reliable and professional legal support for property transactions.
